Snowmobiling in Mammoth Lakes offers access to more than 80 miles of groomed trails and 75,000 acres of terrain across the Eastern Sierra. Riders can choose between guided snowmobile tours or self-guided exploration depending on experience level.

Shady Rest Park is the starting point for three groomed snowmobile trails in Mammoth Lakes, including A Trail, B Trail and K Trail. These trails connect to other trails for snowmobiling just outside of Mammoth Lakes.

Because the groomed snowmobile trails at Shady Rest Park start in town at a lower elevations, snowmobiling here is dependent on snow conditions. Check the latest snowfall updates in Mammoth Lakes before planning your trip.

Trail Information

The trails at Shady Rest Park are flat-groomed for snowmobiles, however cross country skiers, snowshoers and dog walkers often share parts of these trails.

Getting There

To access the groomed snowmobile trails at Shady Rest Park, head to the over snow vehicle (OSV) staging and parking area off Sawmill Road.

Snowmobiling From The Osv Area On Hwy. 203

Along Hwy. 203, snowmobilers can access C Trail, which heads north to areas just outside of Mammoth Lakes, and F Trail, which leads to Minaret Vista.

Remember to dress in layers and keep in mind that it can be considerably cooler and windier at this elevation than in town. The high altitude of these trails allows for an extended season that can easily run from mid-November until late April or even a bit later depending on snow conditions.

Trail Information

The trails at Shady Rest Park are flat-groomed for snowmobiles, however cross country skiers, snowshoers and downhill skiers share parts of F Trail near Minaret Vista.

Getting There

Take Hwy. 203 toward Mammoth Mountain Main Lodge. The OSV staging and parking area is on the right just past Woolly’s Adventure Summit.

Snowmobiling Safety

Before you venture out on snowmobile trails in Mammoth Lakes, be sure to check the current avalanche conditions reported by the Eastern Sierra Avalanche Center. Keep an eye on the weather, as storms can come in quickly.

Let the company you are renting your snowmobile through or travel companions know where you will be traveling and when you expect to be back. Lastly, make sure you have enough gas and water and adequate clothing winter clothing for your adventure.
