Camping

There is nothing quite like spending time away from home at one of the Inyo National Forest Campgrounds.
More than 800 campsites are available in the Mammoth Lakes area, many of them located in the alpine lake and forested streamside settings.
Whether you seek the solitude of a backcountry camping site or a convenient place for you and your family to pitch a tent or park an RV, there are plenty of places to camp.
 
Most campgrounds are on a first come, first serve basis.  However, reservations can be made for the following campgrounds: Sherwin Creek, New and Old Shady Rest, Coldwater Creek, Mammoth Lakes Twin Lakes, Convict Lake and for large group camping at Pine Glen, Agnew Meadows and Pumice Flats. Reservations can made by calling Recreation.gov at 877-444-6777. Campground Map in and around Mammoth.
  Camp High Sierra is owned by the Los Angeles Department of Recreation and Parks. Camp High Sierra is open during the summer months for family camper, trailer, cabin and tent camping. Facilities include tables and stoves at each camp site, hot showers, sanitary facilities, a play area for children and recreation lodge. For more information and reservations call 760-934-2368 from mid June until mid September.
The YMCA of Los Angeles High Sierra Group Camp offers a rustic wilderness setting for adventures of all kinds in the Mammoth Lakes area. Most campers stay in tents, although there is a small dormitory space above the dinning hall. There are also programs that are geared toward high sierra adventure activities such as hiking, biking, backcountry overnight trips and more. Open June through September. At the entrance to town on Hwy 203 is the Mammoth Mountain RV Park. Facilities include full RV hook-ups, indoor heated pool, indoor spa, showers, laundry room, RV supplies, club house (summer only), cable tv, children's play area, picnic tables, ice, propane, dump station and modem friendly. Well behaved pets are welcome for a small fee. Adventure in Camping lets you make your vacation fun and easy!  You pick the campsite and Adventure in Camping will bring the trailer to you and completely set it up!  When your stay is over, we will haul the trailer away.  All you have to do is have fun! Offering the newest trailers at the best prices!  All trailers include awnings, dishes, pots, pans, utensils and paper goods.  Plastic chairs upon request.  Now offering generator rentals.  
Adventure in Camping also has a "Pull your own" Program available for our off-season campers. You can pull one of our trailers from Mammoth to any location you choose. Give us a call for more details at 760-935-4890. 

For the more adventurous, primitive camping is permitted in wilderness areas. Visitors will see and experience the land much the same way that explorers and pioneers did over a century ago. To ensure that future generations may also experience a pristine wilderness, please us "Minimum Impact-Leave No Trace" techniques. Wilderness permits are required for all overnight or longer trips into wilderness areas. For advance reservations, call 760-873-2408 or fax 760-873-2484.

The Mammoth Lakes Welcome Center / Ranger Station offers interpretive hikes, patio talks and campfire programs.

"Where can I take a shower?" There are several places near the campgrounds where you can take a shower, for a small fee. Public Showers.
