McGee Canyon is located about eight miles south of Mammoth Lakes. Drive south on U.S. Highway 395 and turn right onto the well-signed McGee Creek Road. Follow the paved road 2.5 miles west to the trailhead. Parking is free and typically available, though summer weekends can be busy.

The trailhead and lower valley are generally open from May through November, depending on snowfall. The parking area, restrooms, and lower campground provide firm, level surfaces, but the main trail quickly becomes narrow and uneven. Remember to keep dogs on a leash in all developed recreation sites.
