FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mammoth Lakes, Calif. (May 28, 2024): Beginning in July, Mammoth Lakes Tourism (MLT) will welcome Betsy Truax, Executive Director of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation and former Parks & Recreation Commissioner for the Town of Mammoth Lakes, as its new Director of Community Engagement. This new position will focus on engaging Mammoth Lakes businesses and residents in the ongoing efforts to inform the community on MLT’s efforts to support the town’s essential community projects.
“Betsy joins MLT as Community Engagement Director at a great time, as we have transitioned to focus our efforts on stewardship and education of our visitors, as well as balancing the economic needs of our businesses with the quality of life for our residents,” says Mammoth Lakes Tourism Executive Director John Urdi. “We appreciate Betsy’s accomplishments at The Mammoth Lakes Foundation, and know that her experience there will allow her to continue to build a strong community.”
Betsy Truax boasts 12 years of experience as a community leader in Mammoth Lakes. In 2012, she became a Parks & Recreation Commissioner for the Town of Mammoth Lakes, driving projects such as the Community Recreation Center (CRC) and the inclusive playground at Mammoth Creek Park. As the Executive Director for the Mammoth Lakes Foundation, she spearheaded efforts to engage partners and mitigate obstacles in order to bring the Dave and Roma McCoy Arts and Cultural Center (MACC) to fruition. Projected to open at the end of 2025, the 250-seat auditorium will support the growth of Mammoth Lakes’ artistic community and expand opportunities to invite high-profile concerts and shows.
“Betsy’s deep commitment to the mission of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation over the past six years has enabled us to achieve many of our longstanding goals…we’re confident she will bring that same level of commitment and leadership to her work at MLT,” says Luan Mendel, Chair of the Mammoth Lakes Foundation Board.
As Director of Community Engagement, Truax’s primary goal is to create more clarity around the relationship between Mammoth Lakes Tourism and the community at large. She aims to launch engagement efforts within community spaces in order to showcase landmarks of MLT’s support of community projects. Truax is also committed to determining the ideal medium for engaging with and responding to the needs of the growing young adult population of Mammoth Lakes.
Truax says,"It's been an honor and privilege to work for the Mammoth Lakes Foundation to support higher education and cultural enrichment in the Eastern Sierra. I look forward to joining the MLT team and strengthening the connections between MLT and our community.”
