Local Transportation

The Town of Mammoth Lakes in partnership with the Eastern Sierra Transit Authority (ESTA), Mammoth Mountain Ski Area, and the Mobility Commission are proud to announce the commencement of summer transit operations.  We believe the expanded summer schedule offers both residents and visitors a convenient, fun and environmentally friendly alternative to getting around Mammoth. All buses are free (excluding the Dial-a-Ride) and dogs will require a muzzle.  We hope you enjoy your ride!
Town Trolley:

The Town Trolley (Red Line) will operate from The Village at Mammoth to Mammoth Creek Park, from 9:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. daily with stops every 15 minutes until November 20, 2008.

Lakes Basin Trolley:

The Lakes Basin Trolley (Orange Line) is no longer operating.  The Orange line ran from The Village at Mammoth to Horseshoe Lake from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily with service from July 1 – September 2, 2008.  The Trolley departs The Village every hour with stops at Twin Lakes (Tamarack Lodge), Lake Mary, Lake Mamie and Horseshoe Lake.  New this summer, the trolley will tow a trailer, so enjoy the Lakes Basin using pedal-power instead of horsepower!

Midtown LIFT:

The Midtown LIFT (Purple Line) will operate on an extended route from Vons, to Sierra Valley sites, The Village, and Canyon Lodge 7-days a week until November 20, 2008.  The LIFT departs the Vons parking lot on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour, and operates: Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Old Mammoth LIFT:

The Old Mammoth LIFT (Pink Line) will operate on the same 2007 summer route from Vons to the Skatepark, Mammoth Hospital and Aspen Village Apartments 7-days a week until November 20, 2008.  The LIFT departs the Vons parking lot on the hour and 30 minutes past the hour, and operates Monday – Friday from 6:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. and from 9:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.

Mammoth Dial-a-Ride Service:
The popular door-to-door Dial-a-Ride not only services the Town of Mammoth Lakes, but can deliver passengers to the Main Lodge (access to Reds Meadow), and the Mammoth Yosemite Airport.

June 14 – Nov. 20: Monday – Friday: 8:00 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and  9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on the weekend.

Fares for Dial-a-Ride are based on zones and for an adult this ranges from $1.50 to $3.00 per ride.  A 10-ride Punch Pass and a Monthly Pass are also available for purchase.  Prior day reservations / cancellations are always encouraged, and discounts are available for the disabled, seniors 60+ and youth between 5 and 16 years old.  Children under the age of 5 ride free when accompanied by a paying rider.  The Dial-a-Ride bus is ADA accessible and the drivers have been trained to assist those with disabilities.

Reds Meadow Shuttle:

The Reds Meadow Shuttle (Green Line) finished service on September 3, 2008.  Access to Reds Meadow is now free.
