Parks & Recreation

The Tourism and Recreation Department offers beautiful, clean parks and fun, healthly programs for the community and visitors. Our goal is to provide worthwhile programs for all ages and a well maintained parks system.  Our staff is dedicated to providing diverse, quality recreation opportunities including special events, classes, clinics and camps. Whatever your interests, you are welcome to participate in and take advantage of Parks and Recreation programs and facilities.

COMMUNITY CENTER
Located at 1000 Forest Trail, the Community Center is adjacent to the Mono County Library. The Community Center includes a meeting room, kitchen, tables, chairs, and restrooms.  Rental rates are available at the Recreation Office.  The park, which is open during mild weather, includes tennis courts, play and picnic areas, and pay phone.

TENNIS COURTS
The Tourism and Recreation Department maintains six tennis courts at the Community Center Park site. The courts are open to the public from dawn to dusk for drop-in play, mid May-November 1st 2007, weather permitting. They are also available by reservation for groups or tournaments.  Call the Parks and Recreation office at 760-934-2712 ext. 1222 for more information.
The Mammoth Lakes Tennis Club (MLTC) offers social tennis activities for locals and visitors at the Community Center Park site from May-October.  M.L.T.C. sponsors the annual Summer Solstice Doubles tournament in June and the Labor Day Doubles tournament in September. Call 760-934-0150 for more information.

MAMMOTH CREEK PARK
Open during mild weather, Mammoth Creek Park is located on Old Mammoth Road. This park offers a play area designed for tots, toddlers and school-age children.  There are also restrooms, parking, picnic tables, pay phone and a quiet area near Mammoth Creek.

SHADY REST PARK
Shady Rest Park is open all summer until November 1, 2007 or as weather permits and is located at the end of Sawmill Cutoff Rd., approximately one-half mile from Hwy. 203 near Shady Rest Campground. Playground equipment, a sheltered picnic area, restrooms, picnic tables, sand volleyball courts, softball fields, soccer fields, a concession stand, pay phones and a parking
 
area are available for residents and visitors to enjoy as well as a street-scene skate park designed for all ability levels. Picnic facilities are also available by reservation.

  TRAILS END PARK - VOLCOM BROTHERS SKATEPARK
Trails End Park is open until November 1st or as weather permits and is located on Meridian Blvd approximately one-quarter mile south of Highway 203 and Meridian Blvd. intersection and adjacent to the Mammoth Industrial Park. The newly completed 40,000 square foot skateboard park is a work in progress, expansion is imminent, and please be aware that certain park obstacles may be under repair or scheduled for routine maintenance.  Please respect park closures and rules.  Open sunrise to sunset, weather permitting. 
Ample parking and restrooms, pay phone, and walking trails, child's play area, benches and tables are in the installation process.

WHITMORE RECREATION AREA
Whitmore is located 10 miles south of town off U.S. Hwy 395 on Benton Crossing Road (left at the green church).  Whitmore provides a regulation baseball diamond, two softball fields and restrooms. Lights make these facilities available for night games.  This facility is open until November 1st. Whitmore Pool is located across Benton Crossing Road from the ball fields.  This outdoor aquatic facility has a 360-degree view of the Eastern Sierra, Glass and White Mountain ranges.
  The facility includes a six lane 25-meter pool, children's wading pool, restrooms, hot showers, lawn area, BBQ and vending machines.  Red Cross-certified personnel staff the pool. The pool is open from approximately mid-June through early September.  These facilities are available for private use by reservation.  Call the Recreation office at 760-934-2712 ext. 1222 for more information.
