2016 Mammoth Lakes Holiday Events & Activities for Families
The holidays are a special time in Mammoth Lakes with abundant fun, festive activities perfect for families. A snowy, white Christmas is guaranteed as winter on Mammoth Mountain truly gets underway and the town is decked out for the season with lights and decorations. Holiday events and celebrations kick off at Thanksgiving and continue through New Year’s Day.
2nd Annual Mammoth Lakes Turkey Trot
Thanksgiving Day, November 24. Mammoth Creek Park. Bib pick-up begins at 8:00 a.m., run at 9:00 a.m.
Join Mammoth Lakes Recreation and the Mammoth Track Club to start your Thanksgiving Day with a fun, easy 2-mile race followed by a hot chocolate social! Register online in advance or in-person on race day.
Mammoth Mountain Thanksgiving Activities
Mammoth Mountain offers a number of fun, family-oriented activities throughout the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. Enjoy Thanksgiving dinner at the Mountainside Grill and visit Woolly’s Holiday Village Activity Room from 2:00-7:30 p.m. Thanksgiving Day for fun activities including photos with Woolly, holiday crafts and writing letters to Santa. Helmet decorating takes place in Main Lodge from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. November 24-26. Meet at the Discovery Chair (Chair 11) to ride with Woolly at 11:00 a.m. November 25-27, or at 2:00 p.m. November 25 and 26.
Holiday Tree Lighting
Friday, November 25 in the Plaza at the Village at Mammoth.
Join the Village at Mammoth and the Town of Mammoth Lakes for the annual holiday tree lighting and to kick off the Spirit of Giving Week! Festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. with kids’ activities, followed by live entertainment, Santa’s arrival and the tree lighting at 6:00 p.m. immediately followed by photos with Santa and Woolly in Santa’s World. You can also catch Santa and Woolly for photos on Saturday, November 26 from 3:30-5:30pm in Santa’s World.
Mammoth Ice Rink Opening Night
Friday, November 25. 416 Sierra Park Road.
Join the Town of Mammoth Lakes as the Parks & Recreation Department kicks off the Spirit of Giving Week with free ice skating and complimentary skate rentals from 7:00-10:00 p.m. at the rink following the tree lighting in the Village. Weather permitting.
Spirit of Giving Week
Embrace the generous spirit of the Mammoth Lakes community by participating in the Spirit of Giving Week from November 25 to December 2 with opportunities to give throughout the week. It’s a great opportunity to remind your children of the true spirit of the holidays. Donate toys throughout the week at the Mammoth Fun Shop for the Angel Giving Tree and The Fun Shop will offer a 30% discount on any toy purchased for donation, and 10% off an additional personal purchase. On Friday, December 2 volunteers will also be stationed in the Footloose Sports parking lot from 12:00-5:00 p.m. to accept donations of toys, warm clothing and non-perishable food for distribution to local charities.

Night of Lights
Saturday, December 17 at Canyon Lodge.
Do not miss this amazing evening of free entertainment including a beautiful torchlight parade and truly spectacular fireworks display presented by the Southern California Ford Dealers. Family fun kicks off outside at 4:30 p.m. with outdoor live music at 5:00 p.m. and the Night of Lights show starting at 6:45 p.m. Dress warmly and plan to use public transportation to access the popular event as parking is limited. Rooftop Viewing Area and Family Club Room tickets are also available for prime viewing and should be purchased well in advance.
Holiday celebrations in the Village at Mammoth
December 18-25, all day in the Village at Mammoth.
Stroll the Village and get into the holiday spirit with carolers and a variety of entertainment and activities throughout the holidays. Grab a hot chocolate and check out the fabulous holiday décor while you finish up that last-minute holiday shopping.
Skate with Santa
Thursday, December 22 at the Mammoth Ice Rink, 416 Sierra Park Road. Evening session.
Take a spin on the ice with Santa and his helpers! Kids of all ages will enjoy this festive annual event. A professional photographer will also be on hand to capture that special portrait with Santa.
New Year’s Eve Family Fun & Fireworks
Saturday, December 31 in the Village at Mammoth. 6:30-9:30 p.m.
Ring in the New Year on the early side with this family-friendly celebration! Live music throughout the evening and fireworks at 9:00 p.m. A special celebration is available on The Village Gondola deck including party favors, kids’ activities, gourmet hot cocoa bar and a cash bar for adults. Purchase early as space is limited.
